Is the show PBB or Pinoy Big Brother appropriate to Filipino culture?
Q. Filipinos are fascinated with the program PBB on television prime time. Big Brother is a reality television show in which a group of people live together in a large house, isolated from the outside world but continuously watched by television cameras. Each series lasts for around three months, and there are usually fewer than 15 participants. The housemates try to win a cash prize by avoiding periodic evictions from the house. The idea for the show came during a brainstorm session at the production house of John de Mol Produkties (an independent part of Endemol) on 4 September 1997. A. Like they say: There is no business like show business. The primary aim of shows like this is to earn, earn big time on profits, notwithstanding the effect on the masses - the viewing public. And, they find that people are more into it nowadays, watching reality TV shows. Its more like of a trend. If you are a TV producer, and you want your show to stay on Air, go with the trend. Even Britney Spear's reality show made her millionaire. Does this make it right. No. But it entertains people. Does this justify it. Again the answer is No. The fact that, most of the shows that hits prime time TV does not in any way provide moral lesson, but, "Entertainment" is what makes it a Hit.
